HELICOPTERS

Despite the enormous advantages of aerodynes, helicopters are still extremely useful. They are less expensive per kilo of mass lifted, they are cheaper to operate, and they can autorotate down to earth if their engines fail (if an aerodyne's engines fail, it assumes the flight characteristics of a metal lingot). And they can still carry a lot of weaponry.

The unique sniping helicopter is Section 6's premier piece of equipment. This chopper is designed specifically for sniping targets at extreme ranges from an airborne position. When the helicopter is in position, the sides fold out and the floor lowers creating a platform for four snipers, two on each side. The snipers jack into "device drivers" which control their cardiovascular functions and ensure weapon stabilization. Once jacked in, the snipers and their "Ultima Ratio" rifles become a part of the helicopter. They use its small targeting pods for extremely accurate target acquisition. There is no more precise sniping system in the world, and with the aid of the AWACS helicopter, the two are an almost unstoppable team.

Special Equipment :
IR baffling, fire extinguisher, chaff and flare dipensers, military radio with scrambler and laser communicator, auto pilot and navigation, cybernetic linkage, military radar, terrain-following radar, laser detector, telescopic optics, thermal imaging, microwave rangefinder, +4 computer sights on all sniping terminals.

Weaponry :
None except for four snipers armed with "Ultima Ratio" Full-Sensing sniping rifles.

The U.S. military learned a lot from the Russians about building helicopters, their "Hind" was such a superior design that it is serving with some militaries of the world even today. What Bell set out to do was simple, take the best elements of the Hind, and combine it with the best elements of the AH-99. What they came up with was the most superior attack chopper in existance. Used by the Marines and the navy as their standard assault helicopter.

Special Equipment :
Military radio with scrambler, satellite uplink, full visual suite, damage control, fire extinguisher, auto-pilot, navigation systems, cybernetic linkage, military radar with terrain following, radar detector, laser communicator, chaff and flare dispensers, ECM, ECCM.

The AH-99 is intended for one use : Ground Attack. Its array of weaponry is geared to that function, and all its weight capacity is sacrificed to it. Like all helicopters, it's not heavily-armored enough to slug it out with a ground unit, so it relies on long-range firepower to destroy targets from a stand-off position.

Special Equipment :
IR baffling, damage control, ejection seats, environment control, chaff and flare dispensers, military radio with scrambler, microwave rangefinder, auto-pilot and navigation system, cybernetic linkage, ECM, ECCM, image enhancement, laser detector, military terrain-following radar, military radar detector linked to chaff dispenser, tele-optics and thermograph.

Weaponry :
Turret-mounted stabilized 30 mm autocannon (with two magazines), 40 mm auto-GL (with two magazines), and painting laser. Weapon wings hold 8 spaces of pod weapons; the normal load is two four-shot Hellfire pods, or four 19-shot 2.75' rocket pods.

This helicopter has one purpose, and one purpose only. It is a giant jamming platform that disrupts all electronics and communications. It's tail end is dedicated jamming hardware, which blocks all radio and satellite communications in a 10 km² radius area. The tail also houses a giant microwave emitter, which can completely disable any unshielded electronic devices, frying them out and rendering them useless. Finally under the main body of the helicopter, are foil chaff cloud dispensers, which when released are dispersed by the helicopters rotors to cover a 400 meter area disrupting all laser emissions, be they tracking or communications. The helicopter is extremely vulnerable to attack from above. It gets its name from the sound made in enemy headphones when it is approaching, as the static gets worse.

Special Equipment :
Military radio with scrambler, satellite uplink, full visual suite, damage control, fire extinguisher, auto-pilot, navigation systems, cybernetic linkage, military radar with terrain following, radar detector, laser communicator, "Swarm" anti-communications suite (10 spaces), "Hot Foot" microwave emitter (7/10 chance of destroying any unshielded electronic component, range 300 meters direct, 5 spaces), chaff clouburst x6 (2 spaces apiece).

It's huge, it's expensive, but it's so impressive that it sells well, despite the fact that it's not a very good choice for a heavy-combat vehicle. The Dragon's ability to carry lots of troops makes it useful on the battlefield, though. (Revised stats for the Sikorsky-Mitsubishi Dragon from Chromebook 1)
