Thanks to the advent of commercial airships and AVs, the role of airplanes has been reduced to that of high-speed cross-country transport. And this transport costs more, too, since the petrol-based fuels needed to run the jets are rarer than in former times (and are needed to run AVs and Ospreys in any case). The fuel consumed on a single jet-liner trip will keep an AV flying for days.
Military organizations still have use for airplanes. In the tactical role, an airplane is faster than any of the other aerial vehicles available for air superiority or ground attack (except for scramjets, and they are limited to extra-atmospheric performance). In the support role, an airplane can carry more cargo than any AV, helicopter or Osprey, and is much faster than any airship.

In the 1990s, the U.S. Air Force phased out history's best ground attack plane, the A-10 Thunderbolt II, on the grounds that it was "obsolete". The real reason was that the ex-fighter pilots in charge of the USAF wanted nothing to do with any aircraft designed by, and for use with, the U.S. Army. As soon as the USAF's terrestrial mission was revoked, the Army commissioned an updated replacement to the A-10. The result was the A-01 Blitz, entering service in 2001. It remains the best single-seat ground-attack aircraft in the world. Special Equipment : Weaponry : |

In the spirit of continued peace and alliance between the EDF and Russia, top designers from both countries worked together to build this highly manoeuvrable anti-naval aircraft, which faithfully serves both militaries from carrier based platforms. It was mostly done as a sneer towards the US, but the aircraft itself was solid enough to be utilized. The most impressive armament are the special anti-ship/air launched torpedoes the aircraft carry on the top side of their wings. The aircraft waits for visual or sonar (from a sonar spotting aircraft) confirmation of enemy naval vessel, then fires the torpedoes. Once the torpedoes enter the water they will float long enough to detect sonar activity (400 km range), then engage the nearest target using the targets own sonar as a beacon. Obviously these can't be used if friendly or civilian vessels are in the water, but in open water against enemy ships or submarines, they are devastating. Special Equipment : Weaponry : |

Back in the 70's, the former USSR and France were in a race to develop the SST, France eventually won with the Concorde and the Soviets cancelled their plans for further testing. After the break up of the Soviet Union a research and development team in Czechoslavakia found the plans and began to experiment. What they came up with is the only military aircraft produced in the Czech republic. An SST designed solely for the trasnport of cruise missiles. The plane itself utilizes technology that was seriously obsolete even before the year 2000, by todays standards it is considered an antique. Still the Czechs are proud of their planes, and with a large stockpile of nuclear weapons left over from the break up of the USSR they are attempting to set themselves up as a world power (what they have really accomplished is to make everyone else very nervous). For it's size, this is the fastest aircraft in the world. Slightly smaller than an F-50, yet it is able to achieve Mach 4+. These speeds are unheard of in a plane this small, and were thought all but impossible. The project is being held under tight lockdown at a secret airbase in northern France, and no details of the plane have been released to the general public. The extreme G-forces make this plane impossible for humans to pilot it, an Icarus or Wingman full conversion body is required. Special Equipment : Weaponry : |

Fiat XF-45 Firebird | ||

Italian manufactured for the EEC, the Firebird represents a new kind of fighter, or at least a new role for one. While the Firebird itself is nothing special, it is the plane being used by the italians to develop a fighter aircraft with the ability to escort shuttles and deltas into space. The F-45 hopes to accomplish this by being fitted with an experimental disposable booster rocket to allow it to achieve the high altitudes needed to accomplish its task of making sure launches are unhindered by enemy aircraft. The EEC is finding this role of utmost importance due to the underlying hostilities between the EEC backed ESA (European Space Agency) and the USAF, who currently have a similar project in development. While the Firebird has been on the market serving Italy and the EEC for a few years now, its booster rocket is still in development. Note : this vehicle cannot achieve orbit, the booster rocket does not have the range, and if it did it would not be able to maneuver, nor would it be able to withstand re-entry. The Blade is the USAF's only trans-atmospheric capable attack plane still in production. With the use of small maneuvering thrusters built along the entire body of the craft, the Blade is also fully capable of spaceflight. Although the F-44 is not capable of acheiving orbit it is capable of re-entry. Normally the F-44 is launched in groups of 4 attached to a booster rocket, into space where they are stored on a U.S. military spacecraft. The Blade is the first craft capable of dogfighting in space and the U.S. is extremely proud of their achievement. Perhaps the greatest strength of the F-44 is its ability to be launched from its facility and provide escort to shuttles making re-entry. It is also used to prvide back up to U.S. aircraft in high altitude in case of an attack by enemy forces. Even in atmospheric flight the Blade is the most manoeuvrable aircraft on the planet, and has become the official aircraft of the Air Force Thunderbirds team, who perform exhibitions both on earth and in orbit. Note : the armor of this vehicle is to protect against heat from re-entry and from space debris, the combat SP of this vehicle is actually 10. Special Equipment : Weaponry : |

This aircraft, also called the Anti-Predator Device, was developed to eliminate not only those enemies crawling around on the ground below, but to take out anti-tank helicopters, flying tanks, assault mines and other low-altitude airborne weapon systems. The "Morning Star" is a heavily armored vehicle with an armor laminate witch utilizes kevlar, boron carbide, ballistic nylon, and carbon fiber to provide outstanding protection levels. The "Morning Star" is a heavy beast, but the ceramic jet engine at her heart puts out more than enough power to handle it all. The first completely cybernetically controlled bomber in the world. The pilot and navigator sit in a completely enclosed armored shell, cyberlinked to the machine at all times. The USA hopes this will start a new trend, as it gives extra protection to the pilots. In case of an emergency, the top portion of the armored shell detaches forcibly by means of explosive bolts, and the pilot can pilot the old fashion way. In case of ejection the entire armored cockpit of the aircraft is launched away from the plane. Even with the precautions, this plane is completely dependant on its comupter system for survival, if the plane has taken enough damage to make cybernetic linkage impossible, then most likely manual piloting is useless.
