RACE CARS

Like any other sport in the year 2020 professional racing has changed. It's gotten bigger, faster, and more dangerous. With the advent of AV technologies and improvements in fuel the track of today is a far cry from the relatively safe courses of yesteryear. The tracks are longer with more straight-aways leading to hairpin turns. Cars can now reach an average speed of over 400 km/h. Accidents are common and fatalities high, but that's what brings the crowd. The cars too have changed. They are all equipped with laser communicators for instant sit reps, speaking to a team member sitting in an observation tower where he can see the whole track and give constant updates on track conditions, lap count, position, car stress and the drivers condition. The cars are also equipped with radar and ejection seats standard for safety purposes. Motorcycle races are no different, in fact they are deadlier, the only real improvements have been in speed and handling, its kind of hard to incorporate safety into a motorcycle, and deaths in the two-wheel arena are much more common.

The only thing that has stayed the same is the corporate sponsorship of these events. Now just as always they control the show, and endorsements are the name of the game. The media, however, takes a much more active role : they actually compete. In fact the Network 54 team won the last Indy 500. Their cars are mobile studios recording the whole race from the car itself and beaming live to your television or holo-projector via onboard satellite uplink.

People still come for the roar of the engines, the smell of burnt rubber, the rush of air as the vehicles pass, the thrill of the chase, and the speed of the cars. The drivers still do it for two reasons, the money (Andrew Bennet received 20 million eb in prize money alone when he won the world championship last year) and more importantly the chance to drive the fastest cars in the world.

Mass : 2 tons
Cost : 372 260 eb
Reference : Datafortress 2020
With its classic formula one styling and clean lines, this car tears down the track and tears up the competition. One drawback to this otherwise exceptional car is its lack of an ejector seat, which was omitted from production to save weight and space. Instead it uses an old fashion rear deployed parachute. Only the most daring drivers will race in this vehicle.

Special Equipment :
Crash control system, damage control, laser communicator, radar, cybernetic linkage, environmental control, self sealing tires, rear deployed parachute.

BMW Hermes 2020

SDP : 40 (Body 2)
SP : 18 (Armor 1)
Mass : 2 tons
Cost : 432 680 eb
Reference : Datafortress 2020
The Hermes is the most expensive car on the track, it's the car used by the media corporations. It offers impressive performance and handling but that is only a small part of the cars value. In 2020 the media corporations actually run in the races as contestants not just as observers. This car has a full audio visual recording set up, with 360 degree camera view. All the driver does is drive the car, the recording equipment is controlled by personnel on the sidelines.

Special Equipment :
Ejection seat, crash control system, damage control, laser communicator, radar, cybernetic linkage, environmental control, audio visual recorders, satellite uplink.

Reference : Datafortress 2020
The Harpy, an average car for the tracks of 2020. Despite it's unorthodox appearance, with a good track record and high end acceleration this car has won its fair share of races. Although there have been reported problems with the ejection seats (1 in 10 chance of not working). This is the oldest car on the tracks of 2020.

Special Equipment :
Ejection seat, crash control system, damage control, laser communicator, radar, cybernetic linkage, environmental control, Russian Arms quick fix.

Reference : Datafortress 2020
Until the release of the Vengeance this car dominated the track. With the highest top speed available (485 km/h with turbo) and unbelievable handling this car was thought to have been the last word in racing. And while the Vengeance surpassed it, it is still a monster that refuses to be denied. In a startling upset, Andrew Bennet won the world championship driving a Wolf at Monte Carlo last season.

Special Equipment :
Ejection seat, crash control system, damage control, laser communicator, radar, cybernetic linkage, environmental control, self sealing tires, entertainment system.

Mitsubishi Impulse 2020
Type : Race car
Top speed : 440 km/h
Acc/dcc : 30/50

Maneuver : +7
SDP : 45 (Body 2)
SP : 15 (Armor 1)
Mass : 2 tons
Cost : 365 670 eb
Reference : Datafortress 2020
The Impulse is the most maneuverable car on the tracks today, its smaller size gives back the advantage its top speed takes away. Its lack of sufficient armor and its light weight give this car an undeserved reputation as a death trap, on the contrary this car has a better safety record than any other car on the track.

Special Equipment :
Ejection seat, crash control system, damage control, laser communicator, radar, cybernetic linkage, environmental control, self sealing tires, onboard AI (INT 5).

Mitsubishi Vengeance 2020

Reference : Datafortress 2020
Built to compete with the Wolf, the Vengeance surpassed all racing boundaries. Even without the custom McDonnell Douglas rocket boosters (speed 490 km/h with them) this car is a force too be reckoned with, once the boosters are engaged its unstoppable. The Vengeance is heralded as the single greatest car ever built. Years and years of research and every technological advancement available went into the making of this superb vehicle. It has set the standards from this day on.

The Condor is built along classic Pontiac lines, a formidable car, what it lacks in maneuvering, it makes up for in sheer acceleration. Although its an older car, the Condor still enjoys success on the fast paced circuit where a car over a year old is considered obsolete.

Special Equipment :
Ejection seat, crash control system, damage control, laser communicator, radar, cybernetic linkage.
